The Syrian Refugee Humanitarian Project is a coalition across eastern Massachusetts that includes Synagogues, Islamic Centers, Academia and the Medical community to provide safety, hope and opportunity to Syrian war refugees. JFS has deep roots with refugees and immigrants and resolutely stands by them. We work to support the needs of refugees and immigrants and today’s programming addresses the challenges New Americans face when building a life in the United States.
Temple Israel, located in the Fenway-area of Boston, was the first synagogue partner to join this project. The Syrian Refugee Humanitarian Project helps refugee families:
- Receive assistance for a year, instead of being left to survive on their own in intimidating surroundings for them
- Find affordable housing
- Overcome the language barrier
- Find jobs for the parents, and place the children in school
