Weston High School Sophomore Class
Backpack Fun Run
Saturday, May 7, 2016
April 11, 2016 — Framingham, MA — JFS of Metrowest (JFS) is excited to announce that on May 7th, youth from Weston will join together on the Town Green for a 5K Fun Run to raise money to buy backpacks for underprivileged students in Greater Boston Metrowest.
Coordinated by sophomore Zach Swartz of Weston and his family, runners ask friends, family and local organizations to sponsor their participation and all proceeds will benefit JFS of Metrowest’s Reducing Achievement Gaps Program.
JFS is a non-profit, community-based organization dedicated to standing up for
those left behind and provides services to
over 5,000 community members and
families in need within the Greater Boston Metrowest region each year.
JFS works with some of the state’s most economically disadvantaged young school age children and families through its Reducing Achievement Gaps initiative. This multi-tiered program is designed to address the needs of culturally and linguistically diverse students who are the most at risk for growing educational, health and social gaps. Reducing Achievement Gaps has proven to be a successful, evidence-based model and is made up of several components, including afterschool tutoring, nutritional support and assistance, case management and educational parent workshops.
Each year, thanks to the generosity of private and corporate donors, JFS distributes over 200 backpacks to needy students through the Reducing Achievement Gaps program so they have the supplies they need to succeed academically and build a better future. This year’s Fun Run will support this initiative and provide the supplies underprivileged students need to start the new school year off right.
